Home Assistance Training

I have trained dogs to be able to assist their owners in doing tasks such as putting pegs in the peg basket, retrieving dropped items in hard to get to places eg; a cheque book that has fallen under a table can be picked up by the dog and returned to the owner. Dogs can be trained to pick up items in a specific manner eg; pick up an item by its handle, or bring over a walking frame by grabbing it at an attachment that was specifically put there for the dog to use.

In the past, I have trained a dog to push the button that activates the street lights when it was time to cross the road. I have also trained dogs to shut doors and curtains, and to retrieve mail from the letter box. I can have dogs trained to stop at the edge of foot paths, and to follow verbal/directional guidance from their owner.

With more intensive training, I have had dogs opening draws/doors, turning on light switches, and taught them to indicate to/alert their owner using certain behaviour's such like barking, sitting or pointing. I have also trained dogs to pull wheelchairs.
